Artist’s Statement:
My name is Cereese Steele and I love! I have been blessed to be a blessing, and I am honored and humbled to have been afforded the opportunity to share in something such as this, something so impactful, so earth shatteringly beautiful and meaningful.
I have been drawn to the realm of creativity and imagination for as long as I can remember, it is where I feel most at home in this world. I have been painting intermittently for over 20 years now and I utilize a multitude of methods on a variety of medias, though my focus lately has been acrylic on canvas. I enjoy creating texture and using color to bring my works to life.
My love for painting was rekindled several years ago and it happened in the most peculiar and unexpected way, one that would have been impossible to foresee. I began painting as an escape from the deep grief and sorrow of losing our son, never could I have imagined what it would become. I was urged in spirit to pursue this, though not for myself, I was to seek out others and love them the only way I could at the time. So I painted, one piece after another, I painted lost love ones, babies, and pets, I brought to existence pictures of peace and landscapes of glory, I painted because I could do nothing else. I was covered in mercy and grace and I was bursting to share the gift I had been freely given, that even in the midst of immense suffering I had found joy, and I held onto it for dear life. My Cayse’s story is still being written, he is painted into each piece I have done and he has allowed me to shine, a light in the darkness, a city on a hill!
Meet the artist on Friday, May 28 with an Art Walk reception for Cereese on Prescott’s 4th Friday Art walk from 5 to 8pm.
