4th Friday Prescott Art Walk
Elena Akers – “Southwest Motives“
Friday, February 24 through March 22
Arts Prescott Cooperative Gallery is excited to host the bright and vibrant acrylic paintings of our next featured guest artist Elena Akers!
Artist Statement:
During her university days, Elena Akers traveled extensively in various arctic and mountainous regions doing glaciology research. She earned a PhD for her research paper which was published in several scientific journals. During this time, Elena realized that it was her experiential perspectives gained from studying glaciers that prompted her to create wonderful expressive paintings using acrylics on canvas. She was able to use colors and textures in ways that reflected her studies in glaciology.
Soon, Elena describes, “Painting on canvas became my passion, and my art works reached a wide audience. I was so excited to bring bright and vibrant works of art into the lives and homes of many people.” While living in Columbus, Ohio, Elena sold over 300 original paintings on canvas and was featured in the 2013 International Contemporary Artist publication.
Since moving to Arizona, Elena has focused on painting the deep colors of the Southwest. Her new series, “Southwest Motives,” is inspired by the beautiful colors of this region.
You can find both sold and works for sale on her website: www.elenaspaintings.com. Please visit when you get a chance and be sure to let her know what you think!
Meet the artist on Friday, February 24 with an Art Walk reception for Elena on Prescott’s 4th Friday Art walk from 5 to 8pm.
Refreshments will be provided, with live music presented by Alejandro on guitar and vocals!
The show runs from February 24 through March 22.
The gallery is open daily from 10am – 6pm.
