4th Friday Prescott Art Walk
High Desert Bead Society – “From Such Small Seeds”
Friday, October 27 through November 21
Arts Prescott Cooperative Gallery is excited to host our next featured guest artists who are members of the High Desert Bead Society! They will be presenting a collection of wearable art that is as diverse as the materials, techniques, and artists that created them. Each piece of wearable art is skillfully crafted from a jumble of tiny parts into a meaningful whole!
Description:
The Bead Society started eight years ago as a group of friends carving out some time to spend together creating beadwork pieces. The collective skill base grew with each new member and soon they were teaching each other tips and new techniques. As the number of participants grew, the HDBS group was officially formed and has been meeting monthly since, providing educational demonstrations, historical researched presentations, and endless visual inspiration to the members.
The humble seed bead is a small building block from which some impressive creations can be made. Larger and more intricate beads can be used as amazing focal points in their own right. Beads can be strung, wireworked, woven (loom or off-loom), or incorporated into other textile techniques such as embroidery, crochet, or knitting. The HDBS bead artists present jewelry pieces using beads in their full creative spectrum.
HDBS member Tracy Horner tells us she, “likes the way a glass bead provides a crystal-hard focus on an otherwise soft embroidered piece.” Her pieces often include discarded electronic components as visually intriguing elements. Carol Hettenbach’s sculptural pieces focus on weaving delicate copper or silver wire around a focal stone with beads to accent. Whimsical cabochons framed by woven seed beads stand out in Theresa Erb’s unique necklaces. In all, eight talented members of the Bead Society present their original beaded jewelry creations.
The HDBS continues to meet monthly in Prescott and welcomes new members to learn and share all things beaded.
