4th Friday Prescott Art Walk
Julie Poole – “Imaginations: Rustic and Romantic”
Friday, March 24 through April 26
Arts Prescott Cooperative Gallery is excited to host the beautiful watercolor and alcohol ink paintings of our next featured guest artist Julie Poole!
In addition to her 28 years teaching career incorporating art activities into elementary and middle school curriculums, Julie began exploring further art instruction for herself in Louisville, Ky., Tucson and Green Valley, Az., before moving to Prescott in 2011. Her love of art grew with a variety of teachers especially: Gail Schimberg’s Drawing On the Right Side of the Brain class at Yavapai College, Deanna Thibault’s basic watercolor classes in Tucson, Karel Armstrong watercolor at the Prescott Art Store, Ken Ottinger’s colored pencil class, and Caroline Linscott, well-known for her watercolors.
Julie’s lifelong influence was her mother, a professional artist, who would emphasize the importance of lights and darks as they drove through New Mexico landscapes and skies, and how the colors would change. Her favorite aspect of doing art has been challenging herself to try different techniques and subject matter with alcohol inks. The vivid colors and freedom to recreate an image in a different way has been a new discovery! Fun to see what happens!
She has always loved adventure; thus her visual adventure has been learning “how to see” (shapes, shadows, contrast) in nature and to express this within her paintings, always reaching for new levels of understanding.
Julie’s featured artwork, “Prescott’s Own Fountain on the Square” represents a sculpture of beauty, a refreshing meeting place, and a child’s wonderment. This is a reminder of the peace that comes when she is creating.
She has earned numerous awards in local juried art shows, and has paintings in Ky., Tenn., Ind., Fla., Texas, Co., Ca., Tucson, Az., Prescott, Az, and in Germany.
