4th Friday Prescott Art Walk
Neil Orlowski – “Poetry in Oils by Neil Orlowski”
Friday, August 27 through September 22
Arts Prescott Cooperative Gallery is excited to present oil paintings that melt into Roses and Gold by our guest artist Neil Orlowski!
Ever since I was a child I have been drawing and painting. Inspired by the print media of the 1970’s, I spent most of my career as an illustrator with Hallmark Cards and later free-lancing. Exploring all types of media and styles, I eventually returned to painting. For the past 11 years I have been teaching as well, which I find immensely rewarding.
Over time, one truth that has become apparent to me is that the process of painting and drawing is about learning how to see; to see deeply, to not take anything for granted, though our brains want to quickly “label” what we think we see and move on. What I initially think I know and see is so limited, as I discover continually through the process of observation and painting. The experience is humbling, but ever-inspiring.
The work of other artists shows me how to uniquely and more fully see the world: the sensitive, descriptive line of a woman’s back in a Degas pastel; the loose, minimally suggestive strokes that perfectly describe an eye in shadow in a Sargent portrait. These moments transcend everyday experience and elevate and inspire my awareness of the world around me.
An appreciation of the simple, sublime, bold and quietly poetic moments I observe– this is what I aspire to bring to my work.
Meet the artist on Friday, August 27 with an Art Walk reception for Neil on Prescott’s 4th Friday Art walk from 5 to 8pm.
Refreshments will be served. Live music presented by “Zona” on vocals and guitar.
The show runs from August 27 through September 22.
The gallery is open daily from 10am – 6pm. Hand sanitizer available & face covering are recommended, but not required.
