Barry Golden – Wood Worker
Artist’s Statement:
I am a hardcore science type with several degrees in Biology and Zoology. I have taught science at the college level for 45 some odd years and retired from Yavapai College a few years ago.
My beginning wood working began 40 years ago while helping a friend tear down an old house and recycle some old growth vertical grain fir. I took a night class in wood working soon after that and built a Shaker style blanket chest from that recycled wood. And, so it began. Many other furniture pieces began flowing from me until there was no more room. We heat our home with local wood and I noticed how beautiful this “firewood” was in color and durability. So began my wood cooking utensil part of my life. Spoons, cutting boards, and stirrers became my focus. I have enjoyed every second of this journey.
